Joanna Garcia is a proud mom of four, a trailblazing strawberry farmer, and a vibrant voice for agriculture from the Strawberry Capital of Texas—Poteet. Currently pursuing a degree in Horticulture at Oregon State University, Joanna will soon be featured in Faces of Agriculture, the university’s digital magazine highlighting changemakers in the field. A passionate advocate for both science and community, Joanna is an active member of the Poteet Rotary Club, the American Society for Horticultural Science, and the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS). Alongside her fiancé, Pat, she was honored as 2024 Grower of the Year and celebrated a Reserve Grand Champion win for their strawberries in 2022. Known for her innovation and hands-on spirit, Joanna introduced the Florida Pearl-109 strawberry variety to Atascosa County and launched her own line of small-batch, artisan-style jams—a sweet blend of science and soul. Fueled by her love for sustainability, education, and empowerment, Joanna hopes to use her platform to uplift women in agriculture, promote diversity in science, and inspire the next generation of growers. Whether she’s out in the field or in the classroom, she leads with grit, grace, and an unshakable heart.
