She is a Ph.D. student in biosystems engineering with a deep-rooted passion for sustainable agriculture, STEM education, and community outreach. Through this title, Katy aims to advocate for women in agriculture and engineering, promote mental wellness in rural areas, and inspire the next generation to explore careers that combine innovation with environmental stewardship. Katy is the founder of ROPES (Rural Outreach for Prospective Engineering Students), an initiative that brings hands-on STEM learning to rural schools across Tennessee. Her mission is to make STEM accessible and empowering, particularly for young girls who may not otherwise see themselves represented in these fields. This summer, Katy is helping to lead an AI in Agriculture camp, where she will teach students how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing farming, sustainability, and food production. This opportunity allows her to bridge cutting-edge technology with real-world agricultural practices, reinforcing her dedication to education and innovation. With over 360 hours of volunteer service, Katy has devoted herself to animal rescue, disaster relief, and environmental clean-up efforts. Her long-term dream is to create a sustainable farm bed and breakfast that also serves as a healing space for rescued animals and individuals facing mental health challenges. As Ms. Tennessee AgHERculture, Katy is proud to champion the future of agriculture, where compassion, creativity, and science work hand in hand.
